Frederick Weighs In on Women Candidates

Recent NIU political science Ph.D. Brian Frederick provided expert commentary on women candidates and the 2008 election for the local Fox TV station in Boston. The broadcast can be viewed here. In 2007 Frederick accepted a position as an assistant professor of political science at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. Specializing in American politics he teaches classes in campaigns and elections, public opinion, political parties, women and politics and undergraduate research methods. His research focuses on the U.S. Congress, women and politics and judicial elections. During his time at Bridgewater State College, Professor Frederick has established an impressive record of scholarship with ten articles accepted for publication in peer reviewed journals. He has published two articles on the numerical size of the US House of Representatives appearing in PS: Political Science and Politics and American Politics Research. With NIU professors Matt Streb and Barbara Burrell he coauthored a piece looking at the American public’s support for the female president in Public Opinion Quarterly. Frederick and Streb have also collaborated on five articles examining judicial elections accepted for publication in peer reviewed journals including Political Research Quarterly, American Politics Research and Social Science Quarterly. His current research focuses on the voting behavior of women in the US Senate and the impact of negative advertising in judicial elections.
